Learning Support for Primary One Students
To achieve the goals of "Early Identification" and "Early Intervention," the school encourages parents to submit student assessment reports to the school as early as possible. This allows the school to arrange support services for students based on the recommendations in the reports, including speech therapy training, social skills groups, and adjustments for homework, dictation, and examinations.
At the beginning of each school year, the school's Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) and counselors will conduct classroom observations in Primary One classes. Based on the students' circumstances, they will provide Primary One teachers with suggestions on how to support the students.
In December of each year, the school launches the "Early Identification and Intervention Programme for Primary One Students with Learning Difficulties." Teachers will complete screening checklists for students who may have learning difficulties based on their performance over the past three months. They will then meet with the School-based Educational Psychologist to identify students with learning difficulties. During the second semester of Primary One, the school will arrange the "Word Recognition 2" training group for students suspected of having learning difficulties. A review meeting will be held at the end of the semester to evaluate the students' progress. If a student's progress remains significantly behind, the school will, with parental consent, arrange for the School-based Educational Psychologist to conduct a learning assessment. This enables the school to understand the student's learning difficulties and provide necessary follow-up support.
